Teaching in the Post COVID-19 Era: World Education Dilemmas, Teaching Innovations and Solutions in the Age of Crisis ; : 281-289, 2022.

ABSTRACT

In the uncertain COVID-19 situation, professionals working in education development and learning strategies start to wonder why the situation seems strange or even tough. Institutions got involved, somehow, in online teaching delivery. Most post-secondary institutions worldwide began to use virtual learning or remote synchronous delivery (RSD) as the most applicable method to keep a connection with students in a social-distancing situation. It might be too early to rush to drive solutions or summarize conclusions. The key point is to reach for expressive questions that describe and evaluate the situation in interior design education - an advanced step in the diagnosis of the current situation. This chapter investigates how the current pandemic situation affected teaching methods in the Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) program at University X. The chapter explores remote synchronous delivery in this program with a focus on three core interior design streams: studio, visual communication, and software and technology. As a response to crisis situations, the chapter begins to answer these questions: How did remote synchronous delivery affect interior design education? How can we be prepared for advanced teaching approaches? Will this pandemic lead to innovative approaches in interior design teaching pedagogy? © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021. ABSTRACT

Precise management of COVID-19 infection and global pandemic requires a precise assay of SARS-COV-2 antibodies. Spike protein and RBD specific serum monoclonal antibodies has been known to be elicited with the currently approved mRNA vaccine for COVID-19. Since combating SARS-CoV-2 infection begins as early at the viral entry port, mediated by mucosal immunity;whether the currently approved vaccines have the capacity to elicit mucosal immunity is still to be studied. Method;We conducted our research to detect SARS-Cov-2 IgA-RBD and IgG-NCP, in a set of a randomized three patients' groups (total 55 subjects, randomized into 20 (Non previously infected control, 20 fully vaccinated people from AlSalam teaching hospital vaccination ward upon receiving the vaccine doses, and 15 patients newly recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection from AlShifaa quarantine hospital after remission from COVID-19 infection and preparing to discharge) in three fluid samples serum, saliva and nasal fluid, for a total of three samples per participant, to make a total of 165 samples to be tested, using a commercial immunoassay kit (Anti-SARS-CoV-2 ELISA RBD IgA, and Anti-SARS- CoV-2 NCP ELISA IgG) the study was designed to assess the immunoglobulins levels in each sample from different health status and anatomical locations to give the statistical difference and the correct conclusion regarding this study. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 24, as well as Microsoft excel version (16.0.15028), test equations were performed via Mann-Whitney U Test, as well as The Kruskal-Wallis H test, to evaluate the non-gaussian distribution among the study group, for each of the outcomes, p < 0.05 was undertaken as statistically significant. Results;Our work showed that two doses of mRNA BNT162b2 vaccine Comirnaty (Pfizer/BioNTech, New York, NY, USA), elicited a robust anti SARS-CoV-2 nasal and salivary IgA and IgG monoclonal antibody protection (as compared to control 0.625 COI, the vaccinated subjects resulted in a higher median salivary concentration of IgG NCP values as 1.69 COI, with a p-value of 0.0001. same goes for median salivary concentration of IgA RBD with value of 2.875 ± 1.276, as compared to control median values of 0.667 ± 0.208), (as compared to control 0.462 ± 0.2369, the vaccinated subjects resulted in a higher median nasal concentration of IgG NCP values as 1.944 ± 0.694, with a p-value of 0.0001. Same goes for median nasal concentration of IgA RBD with value of 1.941 ± 0.53, as compared to control median values of 0.681 ± 0.226). Two injections 25 days a part shown to trigger a stronger titer of protective immunity as compared to single early shot, still it's less robust compared to the titers measured for the recovered subjects from COVID-19 infection. Taking into consideration that there was a lack of trustable ELISA based assays with specially designed kit for this purpose, focusing on nasal and salivary secretions, the current study that our pre investigational and investigational data are consistent. The results of this study indicates that a protective antigen specific nasal and salivary monoclonal antibody, can be triggered following proper vaccination regimen with mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, so this paves the way for using mucosal protective antibodies detection kits, as a suitable alternative option as a less invasive method compared to serum investigations, for detecting the protection against SARS-Cov-2 infection, induced by vaccine. The vaccinated subjects are significantly better tested via IgA in Saliva as compared to IgG, because of the higher median values for the IgA vs IgG, 2.875 ± 1.276 and 2.083 ± 1.610 respectively with a p-value of 0.008. in a similar state the IgA is the best test for the convalescent subjects in term of nasal fluid samples investigations, as the median value are comparatively higher than median value of IgG, 2.024 ± 0.520 and 1.786 ± 1.115 respectively. © 2023 Israa University Journal of Applied Science. ABSTRACT

Objective The burden of COVID-19 pandemic affected the globe, and it is unclear how it has impacted the general perception of other vaccines. We aimed to investigate the public awareness, knowledge, and attitude towards other complementary vaccines after the mandate of the COVID-19 vaccine. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in Saudi Arabia using a survey distributed via several social media platforms in June 2022. The questionnaire had three main sections;awareness;attitudes;and demographic information. Descriptive analysis was mainly used and supplemented with Chi-square test for correlation. All individuals over the age of 18 were eligible to participate in the study. Results A total of 1,045 participants from Saudi Arabia completed the survey. Of the respondents, 55.9% were female, and 95% were Saudi citizens. Public awareness towards vaccines after the mandate of COVID-19 vaccine was the highest with the influenza vaccine (98.2%), followed by human papillomavirus (HPV) (40.7%), tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) (37.2%), and lastly, pneumococcal vaccine (17%). More than 50% of the participants expressed their willingness to receive any of the four vaccines if they knew about the benefits related to these vaccines. Conclusion The study showed that participants were willing to receive the vaccination if they were aware of the general benefits of vaccinations. Therefore, health education and campaigns toward recommended vaccines for high-risk group are essential and needed.

ABSTRACT

Background Infection breakthrough after COVID-19 vaccination is a point of conflict in current literature not only because of the estimation of the potential hazards and symptoms severity but also due to establishing a vaccination policy and measuring the extent of immunity after vaccination in addition to the waning of the humoral immunity over time. To our knowledge, this is the first study to stratify the risk of post-COVID-19 vaccination breakthroughs in Upper Egypt. Methods In this cross-sectional observational study, we enrolled 369 vaccinated patients registered in our facility either admitted or in out-patient clinic. Patients were interviewed and any proven history of COVID-19 infection after vaccination was recorded. Results In the current study, 18.97% (70 patients) of the 369 subjects enrolled in the study had COVID-19breakthrough infection. Students were the high-risk group representing 18.6% of the study subjects. Hypertension, diabetes, and cardiac disease were the most comorbidities associated with a prevalence of 15.7%, 8.6%, and 4.3% respectively. Prior to COVID-19, confirmed infection was present in 42.9% of the study group. Fever, headache, myalgia, and cough were among the most common symptoms of the post-COVID vaccination breakthrough with a prevalence of 90%, 75.7%, 84.3%, and 74.3% respectively. Conclusion Breakthrough infection after COVID-19 vaccination is not uncommon. Most cases are mild and don't require hospitalization. All types of vaccines tested in the current study offer adequate immunity and guard against severe COVID-19 infection. We encourage the current global policy of full vaccination. ABSTRACT

Despite the ubiquitous use of N95 filtering facepiece respirators (N95 FFR), published literature on the topic remains scarce, especially in relation to dental professionals. This study assesses the impact of N95 FFRs on blood oxygen saturation and heart rate of dental health professionals while performing procedures requiring varying degrees of physical exertion in an aerosol-rich environment. A total of 51 participants, consisting of 43 men and eight women aged between 23 and 31 years were recruited into the study. All subjects were well-versed in wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). A clinical grade pulse oximeter was used with a clamp placed around the fingertip or the earlobe of the participant. The selection of N95 FFR was based on fit and leakage. All data were collected once from the same participants using a surgical mask as a control. Data were collected again from the same subjects after 1, 2, and 3 hours of use. There were significant differences in both oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate between the two groups after 1, 2, and 3 hours of wearing the respective masks. In healthy young individuals, wearing an N95 FFR for an extended period of time during clinical dental procedures reduced the SpO2level and increased the heart rate compared with a standard surgical mask. However, SpO2 levels remained within a healthy range of more than 95%, and heart rate was within acceptable limits.

BACKGROUND: Although the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is primarily responsible for respiratory symptoms, an increasing number of cutaneous manifestations have been reported. Cutaneous manifestations are reported by patients following disease recovery. OBJECTIVE: We sought to document various skin lesions relating to COVID-19 symptoms either before, during, or after infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. METHODS: This was a descriptive study with 273 patients who had cutaneous manifestations after recovering from COVID-19. Each patient provided a thorough medical history and underwent a general physical examination. Following polymerase chain reaction analysis, all participants were confirmed to be COVID-19 patients. RESULTS: Acral lesions were the most common, accounting for 39% of all cases. An erythematous maculopapular rash was found in 21% of cases and was the second most common after urticaria, with fewer cases of erythema multiform, vesicular rash (9%), vascular livedo reticularis, figurate erythema, and flexural rash documented. CONCLUSION: The most common cutaneous changes seen in patients with COVID-19 were pseudo-chilblain acral lesions, which had a good prognosis. Vascular rashes within the spectrum of livedo/purpura/necrosis were seen with severe forms of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) by internal medicine physicians and residents is increasing. We present the results of a pilot study to implement a POCUS curriculum that was interrupted by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic at an internal medicine residency program at a community hospital. The purpose of this study is to inquire about the attitude and interest of our medical residents in POCUS. Additionally, we also plan to examine whether a curriculum that lacks some practical aspects due to COVID-19 restrictions can still improve the residents' confidence in recognizing common POCUS applications and improve image interpretation skills. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, pre-, and post-curriculum pilot study to examine the POCUS skills of categorical internal medicine residents in Post-Graduate Years (PGY) 1 through 3 at a community hospital. The two POCUS-related skills examined were self-reported confidence level in recognizing certain POCUS examination findings and POCUS image interpretation skills. Due to social distancing guidelines, we were unable to host hands-on sessions as originally planned, but residents did receive lectures via Zoom regarding POCUS training and also organ-specific diagnoses. Three primary outcomes were measured: (1) baseline difference in confidence level between interns (PGY-1) and senior residents (PGY-2 and 3) at the beginning of the curriculum, (2) improvement in POCUS confidence level before and after the curriculum considering interns and senior residents all together and also separately, and (3) improvement in image interpretation skills before and after the curriculum. RESULTS: Of 41 residents, 23 participants completed the pre- and post-curriculum test. Of the 23 participants, 12 participants were interns, and 11 were senior residents. Overall, interns showed a statistically significant improvement in the confidence level in almost all diagnoses except pulmonary embolism (p = 0.084). For image interpretation tests, significant improvement was found only in recognizing the two signs of pneumothorax: pleural line absent sliding (X2 = 4.00, p < 0.05) and the barcode sign (X2 = 6.13, p < 0.05). The pre-curriculum confidence level questionnaire included a question about residents' interest in learning POCUS during residency. It showed that the vast majority of residents (21 residents [91%]) are either extremely or mostly interested in POCUS. Most of our residents (18 [78%]) did not have formal exposure to POCUS during medical school. CONCLUSION: A POCUS curriculum that lacks hands-on workshops and longitudinal image saving and reviewing due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions did not improve the residents' image interpretation skills, although the confidence levels of the interns statistically improved. After the pandemic, we plan to implement the full curriculum and examine whether it will improve the residents' image acquisition and interpretation skills.

New coronavirus epidemic- COVID- 19 is still growing. This epidemic disease not only includes high mortality due to viral infection but also caused the psychological disaster in all parts of the world. The paper provides the early Coronavirus stage detection COVID-19, with the methods of machine learning. Support vector machine (SVM) is a two-class classifier which in the recent years attracted a significant attention. The performance of this classifier depends on the amount of its parameters such as C (Penalty Factor) and the existing parameter in kernel. Also the selection of a suitable kernel function has a significant affect in its performance improvement. Besides the mentioned cases, performing the feature selection process not only causes to improve the mentioned performance improvement but also causes to reduce the computation complexity and training time. In this paper, we used the improved partial swarm optimization algorithm (IPSO) to optimize the SVM. Findings illustrated that proposed method could be utilized for diagnosing disease of COVID-19 as the assistant system. Promisingly, the proposed method can be regarded as a useful clinical decision tool for the physicians._

ABSTRACT

Hypogammaglobulinemia is a heterogeneous group of innate and acquired antibody deficiency with variable disease severity, recurrent pneumonia, and bronchiectasis. The outcome of COVID in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia is variable depending on age, comorbidities, type of immunodeficiency, and use of immunoglobulins. We report the favorable outcome of two family members diagnosed with DNAJC17-related retinitis pigmentosa and hypogammaglobulinemia syndrome and infected with SARS-CoV-2 following contact with their mother who had COVID-19. We describe the different immune dysfunction in these patients and their impact on the course and management of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

ABSTRACT

In 145 previously healthy non-critically ill young adults, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related symptoms, risk factors for thrombosis, coagulation and inflammatory parameters were compared, with 29 patients reporting unusual thrombotic events (UTEs) and 116 not having thrombotic events. The inflammatory indices, coagulation and prothrombotic platelet phenotype (PTPP) were significantly higher in patients with UTEs versus those without. Patients with UTEs were categorised according to detection of thrombophilic genes (TGs), coagulation and inflammatory markers to the non-TG and TG subcohort. A total of 38 UTEs were identified, which included splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT; 11), stroke (six), cerebral vein thrombosis (five), thrombotic microangiopathy (four), limb ischaemia and inferior vena cava thrombosis (three each), ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (two), superior vena cava thrombosis (two), upper limb deep venous thrombosis and retinal vein thrombosis, one each. We found a 55% prevalence of TGs mainly heterozygous coagulation factor II, thrombin (FII)-G20210A, Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)-V617F, protein-S, and antithrombin III deficiency with a high (76·9%) prevalence of venous UTEs, multiple vessels thrombosis, and recurrence rate among the TG versus non-TG subcohort. The presence of JAK2-V617F, and FII-G20210A mutations was linked with SVT. Thrombosis in the non-TG subcohort was associated with more haemorrhagic problems, thrombosis progression and a significantly higher level of inflammatory markers, PTPP, mean platelet volume, von Willebrand factor, and factor VIII, which remained high for up to 6 months, as well as elevated D-dimer. Acquired and inherited thrombophilia with endotheliopathy appeared to be a relevant mechanism to explain the occurrence of UTEs that are not correlated to COVID-19 severity.

ABSTRACT

The oral cavity is an intricate environment subjected to various chemical, physical, and thermal injuries. The effectiveness of the local and systemically administered drugs is limited mainly due to their toxicities and poor oral bioavailability that leads to the limited effectiveness of the drugs in the target tissues. To address these issues, nanoparticle drug delivery systems based on metals, liposomes, polymeric particles, and core shells have been developed in recent years. Nano drug delivery systems have applications in the treatment of patients suffering from temporomandibular joint disorders such as preventing degeneration of cartilage in patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and alleviating the pain along with it. The antibacterial dental applications of nano-drug delivery systems such as silver and copper-based nanoparticles include these agents used to arrest dental caries, multiple steps in root canal treatment, and patients suffering from periodontitis. Nanoparticles have been used in adjunct with antifungals to treat oral fungal infections such as candida albicans in denture wearers. Acyclovir being the most commonly used antiviral has been used in combination with nanoparticles against an array of viral infections such as the herpes simplex virus. Nanoparticles based combination agents offer more favorable drug release in a controlled manner along with efficient delivery at the site of action. This review presents an updated overview of the recently developed nanoparticles delivery systems for the management of temporomandibular joint disorders along with the treatment of different oral infections.

COVID-19 infections are seen across all age groups, but they have shown to have a predisposition for the elderly and those with underlying comorbidities. Patients with severe COVID-19 infections and comorbidities are more prone to respiratory distress syndrome, mechanical ventilator use, and ultimately succumb to these complications. Little evidence exists of the prevalence of underlying lung comorbidities among COVID-19 patients and associated mortality. We performed a systematic review of the literature including PubMed (Medline), Embase (Ovid), Google Scholar, and Cochrane Library. The last date for our search was April 29, 2020. We included all original research articles on COVID-19 and calculated prevalence of chronic lung disease patients among COVID-19 patients using random effects model. Further, we assessed for mortality rates among COVID-19 patients associated with these lung comorbidities. The authors identified 29 articles that reported prevalence of chronic lung conditions among COVID-19 patients. Among those, 26 were from China and 3 from the United States. The pooled prevalence of lung comorbidities including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer was 3% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0%-14%), 2.2% (95% CI = 0.02%-0.03%), and 2.1% (95% CI = 0.00%-0.21%), respectively. Mortality rates associated with these comorbidities was 30% (41/137) for COPD and 19% (7/37) for lung cancer respectively. No mortality rates were reported for patients with asthma. This study offers latest evidence of prevalence of chronic lung conditions among patients with COVID-19. Asthma, followed by COPD and lung cancer, was the most common lung comorbidity associated with COVID-19, while the higher mortality rate was found in COPD. Future studies are needed to assess other lung comorbidities and associated mortality among patients diagnosed with COVID-19.

The study aimed to explore the influence of the COVID-19 lockdown on the mental status and dietary intake of residents in Saudi Arabia. In this cross-sectional study, an online survey was conducted from 11 May to 6 June 2020 corresponding to almost two weeks during and after Ramadan (23 April-23 May 2020). The Patient Health Questionnaire was used to assess anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify predictors of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. The prevalence of anxiety, depression, and insomnia among the participants was 25.4%, 27.7%, and 19.6%, respectively. Participants aged ≥50 years with high income (≥8000 SAR) were at a lower risk of developing depression, whereas participants of the same age group with income 5000-7000 SAR were at high risk of developing anxiety. Students and master-educated participants suffer from median elevated depression and are required to take more multivitamins and vitamin D than others. Anxiety and depression were more common among married participants with low income. There is a wide range of Saudi residents who are at a higher risk of mental illness during the COVID-19 pandemic. Policymakers and mental healthcare providers are advised to provide continuous monitoring of the psychological consequences during this pandemic and provide mental support.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 is a public Health Emergency of International Concern. The aim of this work was to assess the level of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) among Egyptians toward COVID-19. A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 1st to April 1st, on 3712 participants of different ages and sex. An author designed KAP questionnaire toward COVID-19 administered online and personally was delivered. Satisfactory knowledge, positive attitude and good practice were reported among 70.2%, 75.9% and 49.2% of the participants respectively. Middle-aged participants reported high knowledge and attitude levels with poor practice level (p < 0.001). Females reported high knowledge and practice levels and low attitude (p < 0.001 and p = 0.041 respectively). Despite reporting high knowledge and attitude among urban residents (p < 0.001), practice level was high among rural residents (p = 0.001). Post-graduate education reported the highest levels of KAP (p < 0.001). Rural residents, working and non-enough income participants reported lower level of practice (p < 0.001). Logistic regression was carried out. It was found that unsatisfactory knowledge was associated with low education [Odds Ratio (OR) = 1.97, 95% CI: 1.51-2.56], and of rural residency (OR = 1.2, 95% CI: 1.05-1.41). Negative attitude was associated with not working (OR = 1.94, 95% CI: 1.61-2.35) and not enough income (OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.10-1.51 respectively). Poor practice is associated with young age (OR = 2.41, 95% CI: 1.94-2.98) and low education (OR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.03-1.37) and not working (OR = 4.95, 95% CI: 4.07-6.02). Satisfactory knowledge, positive attitude and poor practice were found among the participants. A good knowledge and lower practice level were found among middle-aged, working participants, and participants with insufficient income. The demographic characters associated with KAP could be the cornerstone in directing policy-makers to target the health education campaigns to the suitable target groups.

OBJECTIVES: To appraise the knowledge and attitude about COVID-19 of AHPs working across Saudi Arabia. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted using Qualtrics software to gather data from all five regions of Saudi Arabia during the nationwide lockdown in April 2020. Complete responses of 195 AHPs were considered for analysis. The questionnaire consisted of 15 and 14 questions on knowledge and attitude, respectively. The overall scores of each domain were calculated and modified Bloom's criterion was applied to categorize them into a three-point ordinal scale. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square test along with multivariate logistic regression for significant parameters. RESULTS: The AHPs displayed a moderate level of knowledge (58.2%) and a good level of attitude (80%). The AHPs were found to have a non-significant (P > 0.05) difference in the level of knowledge within age, gender, region, occupation, educational level, organizational setup and years of experience. The attitude of AHPs working in a private setup has shown a 2.8 times (P = 0.020) higher risk for having moderate/poor attitude compared to the AHPs working in a government organization. CONCLUSIONS: AHPs displayed a moderate level of knowledge and good attitude towards COVID-19. Emphasis should be given to continuous professional development in order to enhance their knowledge. Furthermore, strategies should be developed in the private sector to positively reinforce the attitude of AHPs.

ABSTRACT

The Saudi government has undertaken rapid and swift actions, such as suspending Omrah and holding international flights. Such affirmative actions enhanced citizens and residents’ confidence in the government officials’ ability to fight the pandemic. However, there are more than 361,178 reported cases of Covid-19 with 6131 deaths as of December 22, 202. As nurses are the largest component of the health care workforce in Saudi Arabia, it is important that they are trained and have the skills and resources to adapt, whether on the frontline of a crisis or in a clinical environment. Nurses play a key function in fulfilling the needs of medical treatment by being the most important part of the health care delivery system.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Measures to control the on-going COVID-19 pandemic such as quarantine and social distancing, together with information overload about the sporadic spread of the disease have negatively impacted many individuals' mental and psychosocial health. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of self-reported mental health parameters and the coping mechanisms of employees and students in a Saudi State University. METHODS: An online survey in both Arabic and English was launched targeting students, staff and faculty of King Saud University from May 11 to June 6, 2020, the peak of Saudi Arabia's nationwide lockdown. A total of 1542 respondents (726 males and 816 females) aged 20-65 years old participated. RESULTS: Majority of the respondents claimed to have suffered from anxiety (58.1%), depression (50.2%) and insomnia (32.2%) during the lockdown. On average, 65.3% respondents agreed that family bond strengthened during lockdown. Those in the highest quartile of family bonding score (Q4) were 41% [odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of 0.59 (0.39-0.87), p < 0.001] and 59% [OR 0.41 (CI 0.27-0.64), p < 0.001] were less likely to be anxious and depressed, respectively, even after adjusting for covariates. This independent and significant inverse association was more apparent in females than males. CONCLUSION: Self-reported acute mental health disorders were common within the academic community during the COVID-19 lockdown. Strength of family bonding as a coping mechanism was instrumental in preserving mental well-being, especially in females.

ABSTRACT

BackgroundCOVID-19 infections are seen across all age groups but they have shown to have a predisposition for the elderly and those with underlying comorbidities. Patients with severe COVID-19 infections and comorbidities are more prone to respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), mechanical ventilator use and ultimately succumb to these complications. Little evidence exists of the prevalence of underlying lung comorbidities among COVID-19 patients and associated mortality. MethodsWe performed a systematic review of the literature including PubMed (Medline), Embase (Ovid), Google Scholar and Cochrane Library. The last date for our search was 29th April 2020. We included all original research articles on COVID-19 and calculated prevalence of chronic lung disease patients among COVID-19 patients using random effects model. Further we assessed for mortality rates among COVID-19 patients associated with these lung comorbidities. ResultsThe authors identified 29 articles that reported prevalence of chronic lung conditions among COVID-19 patients. Among those, 26 were from China and 3 from the United States. The pooled prevalence of lung comorbidities including Asthma, COPD, and lung cancer was 3% (95% CI=0-14%), 2.2% (95% CI=0.02-0.03%) and 2.1% (95% CI=0.00-0.21%) respectively. Mortality rates associated with these comorbidities was 30% (41/137) for COPD and 19% (7/37) for lung cancer respectively. No mortality rates were reported for patients with asthma. ConclusionThis study offers latest evidence of prevalence of chronic lung conditions among patients with COVID-19. Asthma, followed by COPD and lung cancer, was the most common lung comorbidity associated with COVID-19, while the higher mortality rate was found in COPD. Future studies are needed to assess other lung comorbidities and associated mortality among patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
